★★★☆☆

This film is appealing for audiences who enjoyed the 2014 box office hit, Gone Girl. While it has a similar plot, it differs based on overall content and details.

The premise of the film is that Amber (Haley Bennett) goes missing and her murder is somehow connected to Rachel (Emily Blunt), a recent divorcee and belligerent alcoholic.

As a whole, the film is captivating, and keeps its audiences engaged from start to finish; however, its biggest flaw is that it leaves viewers with unanswered questions. By the way, I have not read the book so I am speaking strictly on the plot of the film.

There are quite a few characters in this movie and while you think they all have some important role in the murder and disappearance of Amber, they do not. The audience and I waited for the film to explain their importance to the story but instead, we left the film with questions, questions that the film neglected to answer.

The film did have many pluses though, like Blunt's ability to portray a believable alcoholic and obsessive ex-wife. The film's musical score and quick, transitional scenes also added to the suspense and mystery to the film's overall plot and story line.

Unfortunately, for me, I believe the film ended too abruptly. While I did not read the book, it appeared that the film writers did not know how to end the film so instead, they came up with something random. Also, I hoped the film had a more complicated and complex plot, like Gone Girl, but again, the writers and directors made the film appear more twisted than it actually was.
