Many remember the scare that occurred on January 15, 2009, when US Airways Flight 1549 had an emergency landing in the Hudson River due to the aircraft having technical issues after hitting a flock of birds while in flight. Many however, do not know the story of how the incident post-affected Captain Chesley ("Sully") Sullenberger life and career, his crew members as well as US Airways, and the passengers. Director Clint Eastwood accurately tells this story and by doing so, he keeps his audience fully intrigued throughout his entire film.
Personally, I love historical films so this film was very appealing to me when I initially saw its commercials. In my opinion, it is so much more impacting to portray a historical event and/or situation through a film as opposed to reading about it online or in a textbook. That way, audiences are able to better relate to the event and/or situation. In addition, Clint Eastwood is a phenomenal actor and director so I knew it would not be a waste to go to the theaters and see his film. Tom Hanks is also a phenomenal actor and his films never disappoint. It was apparent throughout the film that Hanks want to keep the integrity of Sully's story, while accurately portraying the emotions Sully faced during this difficult time.
In addition, Sully was filmed in to fulfill the cinematic experience audience viewers expect when going to see a movie. Whether I saw the movie at the IMAX or in a standard movie theater, I would have received the same experience- which was me being fully engaged with the film during both its climatic and serious scenes.
